Piano movers in Vancouver and across BC
A piano is heavy, top-heavy and easy to knock out of tune, which makes it the wrong thing to move with a borrowed dolly and a couple of friends. Pianos are one of the specialty items Shiraz Moving Co. moves across Vancouver and BC, on their own or as part of a home move.
Tell us about the piano and the access at both ends when we call, and we'll lock in your price on the call.
Piano moving: what's included
- Pianos moved as a single item or with your home move
- Wrapped and secured for the drive
- Stairs, elevators and tight turns planned ahead
- Placed exactly where you want it
- Local moves and moves across BC
What we need to know about your piano
Every one of these changes what the move needs, which is why we go through them on the call, before the day:
- The type: upright, baby grand, grand or digital
- Roughly how big it is, if you know
- Floors and stairs at both homes, including any turns or landings
- Elevators, and whether the piano fits in them
- How far the truck can park from the door
- Where it should go in the new place
Before moving day
- Close the lid, and lock it if it locks
- Take photos, lamps and music off the top
- Clear a path from the piano to the door
- Don't try to roll it yourself: the casters on many older pianos aren't built for it, and floors and legs get damaged
After the move: tuning
It's normal for a piano to need tuning after a move. Changes in temperature and humidity between homes affect the strings, so piano technicians usually suggest letting it settle in its new spot for a few weeks before tuning.

Piano moving: common questions
Do you move a piano as a single item?
Yes. Choose Furniture / Specialty in the quote form; pianos are part of it.
Can you move a piano up or down stairs?
Tell us how many steps there are, how wide the stairway is and whether it turns. Stairs change how many movers and what gear the job needs, so we plan it on the call before moving day.
Will my piano need tuning after the move?
Usually, yes. Give it a few weeks to settle into the new room's temperature and humidity, then book a piano technician.
Can my piano come on a long-distance move?
Yes. A piano can travel with the rest of your belongings on a long-distance move within BC.
