Strata rules, elevators and loading bays
Most strata buildings in Metro Vancouver ask residents to book the elevator for a move-in or move-out, set the hours you can move, and may charge a move fee under their bylaws. Some don't allow moves on weekends or holidays at all.
The booking is made by the resident or owner through the strata or property manager, for both the building you're leaving and the one you're moving into. Tell us the windows when we call, and we plan the move inside them.
- Book the elevator at both buildings as early as you can, especially for month-end
- Ask how long the booking is and whether there's a move-in or move-out fee
- Confirm where the truck can park: loading bay, visitor parking or the street
- Ask whether the building needs anything from your movers before the day
Parkades, street parking and long hallways
Most underground parkades are too low for a moving truck, so condo moves usually load from a loading bay or the street. The closer the truck is to the elevator, the faster the day goes.
In the City of Vancouver you can reserve curb space for a moving truck with a temporary street occupancy permit; the City's moving guide puts it about a week before moving day. Other cities have their own parking rules, so check with yours.
Walk-ups, basement suites and older buildings
Plenty of Vancouver apartments have no elevator at all: older walk-ups in Kitsilano, Mount Pleasant, the West End and around Commercial Drive, and basement suites with a narrow side entrance.
Tell us the floor, the number of stairs and any tight turns. Stairs change how many movers a job needs, so it's part of the plan before the day, not a surprise on it.

Do I book the elevator, or do you?
Elevator bookings are made by the resident or owner through the strata or property manager, so please book it at both buildings as early as you can. Tell us the times when we call and we'll plan the move around them.
What if my building only allows moves at certain times?
That's normal for strata buildings. Share the window on the call and we schedule the move inside it. We also work weekends and holidays, if your building allows moves then.
Can the moving truck park in my building's parkade?
Usually not, because most underground parkades are too low for a moving truck. Plan on the loading bay or street parking. In Vancouver you can reserve curb space with a temporary street occupancy permit from the City.
Do you move studios and small apartments?
